UNDER16'S
THE UNDER 16'S WOULD LIKE TO THANK PAUL SHEPHERD FOR SUPPLYING TRAINING BALLS
THETFORD TOWN V ABBEYGATE YOUTH 16TH DECEMBER
Thetford hosted Abbeygate on Sunday in a competitive but very friendly game, Town started well and went 1-0 up after only 10mins when a free-kick from A.Shepherd was headed in by T.Mills. Town thought the floodgates would open but with poor finishing and great goalkeeping, Abbeygate managed to keep Town out to go in 1-0 at the break.
The 2nd half started brighter with Town looking to capitalize on their superior passing and moving and again with only 10mins on the clock a great cross by N.Prigg was finished by J.Fisher. On 20 mins a scramble in front of goal was eventually put in by T.Mills to make it 3-0 5 mins later the move of the match finished with A.Shepherd putting a great through ball to N.Eastwood who finished with a great lob over the advancing keeper. With the game coming to a close it looked like the scoring was all over but J.Fisher drove hard at the Abbeygate defence and struck a good shot which took a wicked deflection and flew past the Abbeygate keeper who had been outstanding all afternoon. This game was played in a competitive but very friendly atmosphere and was a credit to all the
players on display.
FT 5-0 MOM are J.Rutter & T.Mills
THETFORD TOWN V EAST LYNN 25TH NOVEMBER
Thetford Town hosted East Lynn in the 3rd rnd of the John Savage county cup on Sunday. Town started well and had a few good chances to open the scoring mainly from Watts, but were unable to convert their superiority to goals, they kept Lynn pinned back in their own half for the first 20 mins until Mills scored with a great shot after being put through by Watts. Town tried to get another before HT but it was Lynn who almost scored with Wheeler making a great save and then eventually cleared by Bullen. HT 1-0
Town came out for the second half a bit more determined to increase their lead and after only 2 mins a good through ball from Shephard to Mills finished with the ball in the Lynn net to secure Mills 20th goal of the season. The game settled down and Town looked as if they could extend their lead at anytime and this happened after 20 mins when Prigg ran through the Lynn defence struck a great shot which the keeper could only parry back to Prigg who finished well for his 16th goal of the season. Town then scored a fourth right on full time when Eastwood hit a 25yd shot which the Lynn keeper had no chance with. Town now progress to the last 8 of the cup where they will no doubt meet a higher standard of opponent. FT 4-0. MOM Lingard & Martins
THETFORD TOWN V HOLBROOK 18TH NOVEMBER 2007
Thetford travelled to bottom of the table Holbrook with Town short of 8 players, The game nearly had to be called off as Town only had 3 cars travelling and one was manager Robbie Campbell's. But after a bit of maneouvering Town managed to squeeze everyone in. Town had a makeshift team with captain B.Fogg playing in midfield and other pkayers out of position. Town started well with Mills scoring after 5 mins to go 1-0 up, Town thought the flood gates would open but through poor finishing, great goalkeeping and Holbrook having a bit of luck it managed to stay this way until HT. With the second half Town started to use the width of the pitch through Tiburcio & Nick-Scott and eventually scored their second when Martins scored his 1st for the club with a nice left foot shot after a corner. Town went three up when after Conroy hit the post a calm finish from Martins for his second. Town then got a fourth when a free-kick from Bullen was floated in and Mills headed it over the keeper. Town could have gone further ahead but Campbell hit the bar with a great header and also just missed with a good half volley. In the last 10 mins Prigg scored a couple of late goals to increase his season's tally. MOM Fogg & Martins for playing out of position. FT 6-0
THETFORD TOWN V CHANTRY 11TH NOVEMBER 2007
Thetford U16s travelled to Chantry who like Town are unbeaten this season and Town knew they were going to be in a hard game. With the game only 10 mins old, Chantry got a corner and delivered a decent ball into the box. However poor marking at the back post let in the Chantry player for an easy header, Luke Wheeler has to hold his hands up to not commanding his 6yd area. Town equalised 5 mins later when a great free-kick from A.Shephard was knocked back across the goal by Watts and headed in by Prigg. With 10 mins to half-time Town had a good chance to take the lead but Prigg's shot was cleared off the line. HT 1-1
The second half was a dismal affair with poor refereeing, a spate of unnecessary bookings and shots either misplaced or bad finishing. This was made worse with Town players arguing amongst themselves and not concentrating on the opposition. FT 1-1
THETFORD TOWN V BURY TOWN 4TH NOVEMBER 2007
Thetford Town hosted Bury Town in the league and Town expected an easy game, however this turned out not to be the case
with Bury defending well and Town wasting chances. The first 10mins were of Town trying to seek a opening and this came with
Shephard driving a free-kick at the goal which the keeper turned over. 5 mins later Fogg headed a corner back across the goal
and Bloss drove the ball over the bar. 2 mins later Town took thelead when another corner from King was headed in by Mills. HT1-0
The second half was almost a carbon copy of the 1st with Shephard, Bloss, Watts and Mills all having shots either saved by
the Bury keeper who had a very good game or missed the target altogether. However Town did manage to add another goal when a good
move involving Martins & Watts was finished by Prigg. Town will be very disappointed by this performance and will need to improve in
the future if they wish to challenge for honours at the end of the season. MOM Luke Wheeler FT 2-0
THETFORD TOWN V BUXTON JOHN SAVAGE CUP 28TH OCTOBER 2007
Thetford travelled away to Buxton in the 2nd Rnd of the County cup and were expecting a hard game from the Norwich A div club. The two teams went at each other straight from the off and there were a few physicalchallenges throughout the pitch which went unpunished by the ref. After 10 mins a fantastic shot from M.Watts thundered off the bar and bouncedout for T.Mills to follow up with a header, but Mills managed to put itover when it seemed easier to score. Town started to pass and move theirway through Buxton and got their reward on 25mins when a great throughball found Mills who smashed it past the flailing keeper. 10 mins laterit was 2-0 when another good move from Town involving Shepherd and Bloss finished with Watts slotting the ball into the net. HT 2-0Town manager Campbell made wholesale changes at Half-time bringing on Lingard, Martins & Prigg and also changed the formation to try and contain Buxton early on. However Buxton pulled one back when a long ball went over Bullen's head and the on rushing Keeper cleared the ballagainst the Buxton forward who knew nothing of his goal, a fluke of a
goal!. Buxton seemed to be encouraged by this and their fans wanted them to push for an equalizer however a great ball from Martins across the
face of the goal found Mills who had a simple tap-in. Town were settled again and then scored the goal of the game when Watts beat two players and thundered a 20yd shot into the top corner. Town were then drawn intopetty squabbles throughout the game which saw Shepherd & Bullen booked and Conroy sent off. Poor refereeing spoilt the occasion of this game.
All Town players played well however notable performances came from Shepherd, Martins & Conroy, however Man of the Match was M.Watts.
THETFORD TOWN V MORETON HALL 14TH OCTOBER 2007
Thetford Town entertained Moreton Hall on Sunday with both teams undefeated so far this season. Town had 6 players missing with 3 playersrepresenting Suffolk in the County championship and the others either
injured or on holiday. This was probably the best time for Moreton Hall to play against Town with so many key players missing. The 1st half was a dull affair with neither side really having any clear cut chances and
Town struggling to impose themselves on the visitors. HT 0-0 Town sent on Centre-forward T.Mills at Half-time and this seem to unsettle Moreton immediately with their keeper making a great save fromMills inside the 1st minute. Town looked more competitive and on 10 minsa great long throw from Mills found Bloss who calmly chipped the
on-rushing keeper from 18yds. This lifted Town's spirits and they then pushed for a second, this came after 32 mins when another long throw from Mills evaded everyone and found Watts at the back post who drove a
right footed shot into the bottom corner. This was a disappointing display from an undefeated team who in the last few weeks have been banging the goals in. Players who played well today were Wheeler, Bullen & Mills. MOM though goes to Eastwood.
FT 2-0
THETFORD TOWN V SPROWSTON JOHN SAVAGE CUP 30TH SEPTEMBER 2007
Thetford Town traveled to Sprowston in the 1st Rnd of the County cup on Sunday and came away with a great result. As the game started it looked
like Town were in for a tough game as Sprowston seemed to soak everything up that Town were throwing at them and were defendingextremely well. It took Town almost 20 mins to break the deadlock whenafter a great move involving Mills & King , Bloss finished well. Townthen went 2-0 up after good control by Mills who turned and finished well. Almost immediately Town went 3-0 up when after a great cross fromTiburcio, Watts finished with a looping backward header. HT 3-0
The second half was a different affair with Sprowston pulling a goal back after 5 mins when a defensive error from Bullock let in theirforward to give Campbell no chance. From the kick-off Town attacked immediately and finished with a great drive from Prigg. Sprowston thenpulled another back when another defensive error this time from Fogg letin the forward who hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. Thisis when the game changed to one way traffic with Town hitting 11 goals without reply.Prigg scored with another low drive.Bloss scored with a fantastic chip into the far corner. Prigg scored with another drive for
his hat-trick. Nicholson-Scott scored with a great left foot shot. Prigg scored again with a low drive.King scored after a good move and left footed drive. After a great curling shot from Fogg which came of the post was finished from Prigg.Rutter then scored after a good individual move.Prigg then scored a further 3 goals to finish with 7 goals in total. Nicholson-Scott finished the game with a volley from a Town corner. This was a great performance by Town with good performances also from Martins,Bullock,Bullen,Fogg & Rutter, But MOM has to go to Bloss &
Prigg. FT 15-2
THETFORD TOWN V STOW TOWN 23RD SEPTEMBER 2007
Thetford Town entertained top of the table Stow Town on Sunday in an early season top of the table clash, Town started very cautiously with Campbell making a great 1 on 1 save inside the first 5 mins, Town then settled down and were awarded a penalty when Conroy was brought down inside the box. King slotted the penalty away. The next 10 mins were a bit frantic with both teams cancelling each other out. Campbell then threw the ball from his box to Fisher on the half-way line, Fisher then ran on ,beat four players and calmly slotted past the keeper for the goal of the game. Nearing half-time it looked like Town would go in only 2-0 up however a frantic 2 mins saw four goals scored, the first from a huge kick from keeper Campbell, nodded on by Fisher and finished easily by Watts. Town went to sleep again this week and conceded a sloppy goal from a Stow cross, with poor marking the Stow forward had a simple header giving the keeper no chance. Town scored within 20 secs of the restart when Fisher went through the Stow defence again and slotted easily past the keeper. From the subsequent restart Mills went on a surging run through the Stow defence and with a lucky deflection slotted in the ball. HT 5-1 Town started the second half just as they had finished the first with Fisher putting in a great pass for Mills to run on to and finish easily with only a minute on the clock. 5 mins later Stow with a corner pulled one back when a mistake from Campbell let in a Stow forward for a simple tap-in, this was Campbell's only error in the game. 5 mins later Town scored an almost identical goal to the previous with Fisher putting in a great pass for Mills to finish for his Hat-trick.The next 25 mins were very one-sided with Stow Towns heads down and Thetford looking to capitalise, however through good keeping and poor finishing Town could not manage to capitalise on their superiority. With 5 mins to go a great ball from King let in Fisher who finished superbly for a well-deserved Hat-trick. With a minute to go Prigg completed the scoring with a great drive into the bottom corner. FT 9-2 MOM N.Eastwood/J.Fisher.
